1/26/14 ** An important contribution to the body of work on the Holocaust survivors. The first author is a survivor of Auschwitz and the experiments that Josef Mengele conducted on twins. The story begins with her birth in 1934 and continues with her experiences as a member of the only Jewish family in her village in Rumania. Late in the war her family was first taken to a ghetto and subsequently to Auschwitz where she stayed until the liberation of the camp in 1945. The book continues with her life in the post-war years in Rumania, Israel, and finally in Terre Haute, IN, where she came as a young bride.
Eva Kor's message resonated strongly with me:
"Anger and hate are seeds that germinate war. Forgiveness is a seed for peace. It is the ultimate act of self-healing."
Kor began an organization called CANDLES: Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors.
