Exiled Queen, The (A Seven Realms Novel)

The Exiled Queen - Cinda Williams Chima 10/13/12 ** Enjoying the re-read.

12/27/2010 ** Yes, received it for Christmas - will re-read the first book in the series and then move on to this one.
1/3/2011 ** Finally got to start it:)
1/8/2011 ** I hate reading series books when the whole series hasn't yet been completed. I guess the series is projected to have four books, with the third coming out in September 2011. That's a long time to wait to see how the characters are going to get out of their various predicaments.

From the standpoint of pace and characters, I was sucked into the story. I'm cheering for both Han and Raisa, wanting them to find a way to reconcile their different backgrounds and end up together. I can't wait to see what happens when 'Rebecca' finally reveals to Han that she's actually the Princess Heir, Raisa. I also want to know who Crow is - at the moment, I'm speculating that he's somehow Alger Waterlow, or perhaps Lucius Frowley.

I had some minor quibbles with this book, but the logic and consistency was much better than that in the third Heir book. One quibble was when Raisa traveling through another area of her world. She saw yellow and orange fruit that puckered her mouth as well as apples & peaches all growing at the same time. I don't know of any place where those fruits are all ready for harvest at the same time, let alone anywhere that will support all four of them. Also, she saw wheat at the same place and time. This is a small error but seems to indicate a lack of world building.

Still, well worth reading...Raisa is a strong heroine who challenges the norms of her world, helping us look at the expectations of girls in our own world.
