11/6/12 ** Recommended for 2nd-4th graders. The main character is in 3rd grade and is struggling with learning his multiplication facts. The story is enhanced by the quirky KG sibling who "gets" math and is being put into a class for older students, and by the class hamster.
Favorite line (from an adult perspective): "The cookies weren't Wilson's favorite kind. Wilson's mother bought cookies she didn't like so she wouldn't eat them and gain weight. The trouble was that the cookies she didn't like, nobody else liked, either."
Mills has skillfully written for her multiple audiences.
