7/4/11 ** Heard about these for years, never read them. A pleasant young-middle-grade read. The format is perhaps becoming over-done: the author ostensibly receives a manuscript from another source and facilitates its publication. In this case, Jared, one of three siblings finds a book about faeries which helps him solve the mystery of the malicious mischief being wreaked on his brother and sister and in his new house. I like the way that he recognizes the harm he and his sibs caused to the fey creature and took steps to make amends. In addition to the fantastical element, there is a strong mystery. This would be good for young readers who are in the early stages of reading chapter books - lots of detailed illustrations to pull them along.
