The Doorbell Rang
1/17/2011 ** Will be using this during my Daily Math Review lessons this week. Sure wish I knew where my own copies are. Also wish my public library, IMCPL, had more than 3 copies available.This book does a great job helping kids see the patterns of division that we can create with a total of 12 objects, dividing by 2, 4, 6 and 12 before we get lots more cookies and no longer need to place quite so much attention on sharing. On the negative side, the book reifies gender stereotypes regarding women - the mother bakes cookies and mops the kitchen floor while wearing a skirt; grandma saves the day with another tray of fresh-made cookies.
